| LELDF
wants the young people of our nation to learn about the challenges
of law enforcement. What better way to accomplish this than
to have programs on college campuses with lively speakers discussing
criminal justice issues?
For the past two years, LELDF has helped to fund a nationwide
program spearheaded by the prestigious Intercollegiate Studies Institute
called “Understanding Law Enforcement.” A main goal is to demonstrate
the civic and cultural benefits of careers in law enforcement. The project
sponsors conferences around the country and competitive essay contests
to provide a proper understanding of the relationship between order and
liberty. An Honors Program provides undergraduate scholarships and a focused
mail campaign reaches students and faculty.
ISI Student’s Guide to the Study of Law by Notre Dame law professor
Dr. Gerald V. Bradley, and Roots of American Order by renowned scholar
Dr. Russell Kirk are among the many educational resources in the ISI Law
Enforcement Library.
Campus lectures have been held at universities and colleges
with such luminaries as former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft; Police
Chief Corey Lyman, lead investigator of the Elizabeth Smart case; Dr. Mario
Paparozzi, former president of the American Probation and Parole Association;
and Heather MacDonald, author of Are Cops Racist?
